Vintage Mod Mini Dress

This minidress is so much fun! Very mod, very 60s – very red. And it totally works 🙂

vintage mod mini dress

You could wear this just as shown – casual sandals, red lipstick, and out the door. Or take tease that hair into a beehive (I’m absolutely seeing a 60s do with this). Or pair it with black tights and it’ll be warm for winter as well as cool 🙂

This is what vintage ought to be – wearable and smart but also fun and sassy. I found this fab dress at Psychedelic Pinup on Etsy. Even the name is funky and fun! Esther, the curator / owner, has clear, informative pics and you know how important that is when you’re buying online. And she’s got some terrific finds – vintage lingerie, party dresses, and even a Sale section! And her items are separated by size – so you can find things that will fit YOU.

Go check her shop – you’re going to thank me!

Vintage green silk dress

Let me put it this way – this dress is a fine example of why vintage is so wonderful. I don’t even have to talk a lot: let’s take a look.

vintage green silk dress

Such a simple dress. And what that means is, you can wear is so many ways. In summer, absolutely! A pair of flipflops or heels. A fab pair of boho earrings. In fall or winter (like, right now) – toss on a bright red cardigan. Dark green, or red, or black, high heeled Jimmy Choos (or if you’re like me, hunt down some fabulous thrifted heels).

I wouldn’t wear the classic pearl necklace, myself – I’d toss on a long tribal thing, or a multicolor vintage Haskell (Haskell *style*, which I would fake, and it would be great) – or maybe floral tattoos covering my arms (fake, or temporary, but oh well) and just add earrings.

You see what I mean? You can wear this dress anywhere, day or night, and it will look good. Belt it or don’t. High heels or flats. And by the way – they don’t usually tell you this, but silk is uber washable.

I found this treasure at Sydneys Vintage on Etsy. Not only does Syd, the curator/owner, have some GREAT party finds, she also has a coupon code for 20% off!

And this dress – this simple, classic, easy to wear (anywhere) dress – even before using the coupon – is $27.00. Yes. Twenty Seven Dollars plus shipping. Go grab it. Or go shopping for other fab finds. Do it. You’ll thank me.

Vintage bridesmaid dress

I first thought of “party dress”, because add a pair of high-heeled slippers (don’t you lvoe the vintage jargon? pumps, or stilettos, or whatever you want to call them) – and a fab pair of earrings and you will ROCK this dress. Or it will rock you. **

But then I thought: non-matching (but similar color) bridesmaid dresses, which if I was planning another wedding for me that is totally what I would be doing, so that my girls culd have dresses they love that were also coordinated with what I wanted 🙂

And this dress:

vintage blue bridesmaid dress...or party dress

How could you not love this dress? Look at the details! The wonderful shirring, the little bows, the finely-bound armholes, the full skirt! Modest but sexy too. Flirty and fun.

I found it at Jupe De Jour vintage boutique on Etsy, and this darling shop is just full of vintage finds you need to know about. A gorgeous red cheongsam. A pair of vintage brown pumps that believe me if they were my size would already be sold.

A vintage cowboy hat! Go see. You’ll thank me.

Vintage fitted Jaeger jacket

Now this is why I love vintage! It’s that time of year when I want a jacket. Even if it’s not cold yet – well, not COLD yet – it’s chilly enough that a tee and jeans just won’t cut it. I need a jacket. You need a jacket. Yeah, we do.

So when I find a sexy goodlooking jacket like this – and affordable too? I am a happy camper.

vintage Jaeger navy blue fitted jacket or blazer

Can’t you just see this with jeans? Or a long skirt, as shown in another pic. Or with a bodycon dress for clubbing. I love the 40s feel of the jacket – and knowing that I’m not going to see these in every shop.

This beauty can be found at Zues Vintage – if you don’t wait too long. Scott, the owner/curator, has a great eye for detail – and for good value. You’re going to love his shop!

P.S. Right now he’s got a black velvet, 1980s, slinky, off shoulder, which you need to see. And grab before it’s gone. Just saying. You’ll thank me.

Vintage black and white Talbot’s dress

I was looking at party dresses…not really interested in super fussy or “grand evening” dressy – just fun party dresses. And found this little treasure 🙂

vintage black and white Talbots plus size party dress

I love the slightly flirty look – sheer sleeves, long(ish) twirly skirt – but it’s easy and not fussy and wearable. And! It is a Size 16! YMMV or course, but still – it is NOT a size 2. Size 2 is fine and all but you know, not all of us are that tiny.

I’d dress it up (kinda) with a long black necklace and a super fitted jacket for warmth (1940s preferably) – or a black shawl. Or your raincoat, hey, you’re not going to wear the coat all evening, so whatever. But it would work right now – through Spring. Like clothes should 🙂

This little cutie lives at Gypsum Moon Style vintage boutique on Etsy – until some lucky girl grabs it. That girl could be you. Just sayin.

Vintage technicolor jacket :-)

Now this is why vintage is cool. Take a look at this totally wearable, everyday, just-for-fun jacket:

vintage technicolor bomber jacket

It’s basically just a baseball jacket. It’s casual, it’s not meant to be Grand, it’s probably fairly lightweight. Perfect for fall days or nights when you just need a little something. The thing is, somebody decided to make it fun. It’s hand-embroidered, it’s got lots of colors, it’s not super expensive, and you’re definitely not going to see a bunch of them running around the neighborhood.

I found it at Last Call by T a new vintage shop on Etsy. Tierney, the shop owner, has a great eye. She gives details, she has good clear photos, she finds good stuff. This is the kind of shop we all want to find 😉

It’s why vintage is fun. Something a little different, something you can enjoy without stressing about it. Just wear it 🙂

Vintage green summer dress

I saw this adorable kelly green vintage dress and it just popped into my head, how I would wear it. And I totally fell in love.

Now first, it’s a cute dress. Next: add bright red hoop earrings. Big ones. And really high heeled sandals. Yes, just this once, because they would so totally rock. In red, or green, or black. Black patent. That’s the ticket.

I don’t know if I’d leave the length “as is”, or shorten it to one of the calico bands around the bottom – would have to try it on to see.

I found this terrific garment while visiting Topanga Hidden T on Etsy. Darrell and Mary Bee, the owner and curator, have a great eye, super values – and a brick and mortar shop as well! So in person, or online, you definitely want to Go Shopping here 🙂

And this dress – cute, cotton, and even comfy – and it’s a “large” (yay! not a size 2!) And fun? Yes.

The bright red hoops are optional 🙂

P.S. Plus – this is important. They have a dinosaur on the roof of their brick-and-mortar. I mean, it’s worth the trip to LA!

Vintage turquoise sandals

Oh my goodness! Look at these gorgeous shoes. The shop has them listed as “mules” – I’d have said, “Slides”. They’re backless heels, they’re sandals, whatever you call them, they are wonderful!

vintage turquoise sandals or mules

Actually I think I like the name “mules”. It’s vintage too. And these are that super combo of vintage style – that looks totally great today.

I found these hot shoes at Vogue Vintage boutique at Etsy, and this woman has a great eye (and great prices!) Check out her orange crocheted sundress, or purple mod 1960s swimsuit, or Hawaiian batik dress, or – well, you get the idea. And right now, she’s got a “Christmas in July” sale.

Check it out – you’ll love it!

Vintage black and white halter dress

I was going to title this post “Vintage Black and White Summer Dress” and then I thought about it. Yes, this is a great dress for summer. But actually? Add a black jacket or cardigan and you could wear this gorgeous dress year round.

vintage black and white halter dress

Take a look at the other pics in the listing – you can see the detailing, and it’s pretty cool. It’s probably fairly adjustable, would be forgiving of a little weight gain or loss, and it’s a super flattering line. And come on: sexy halter, shoulders, flirty skirt, and black and white…. this is a foxy dress!

I found it at Sammy’s Chifforobe on Etsy, and Sammy, the owner/curator, has got a great eye. She gives you good pics, lots of detail, and the prices? In a word – amazing.

Go shopping! You’ll love the store, you’ll find great deals, and to top it all off, Sammy’s using her savvy and sense of style to help pay for grad school. We need more women in grad school, getting educated, getting out in the biz world! This is what we call a “win/win”!

Black Beaded Vintage Dress

And here you have a vavoom example of why vintage is so great – take a look at this fabulous dress!

black beaded vintage dress

It’s gorgeous, for one thing. It’s got a great flirty style. It would look darling with black stilettos as shown – or the barest black sandals. You could wear it right now for a fancy summer party. You could absolutely wear it for New Year’s Eve. And you are NOT going to see ten of them at the party. You will be Unique – which is (one of the) main things to love about vintage.

I found this adorable dress at Shabby Babe Vintage on Etsy, and believe me you are going to want to shop there. Heather, the owner/curator (and model!) has got a great eye for Finds. She tells you the good *and* the bad about her items – and that’s so important when you’re buying something online. She gives GOOD pics – the details you need to know.

She loves vintage. You can tell. And if you’re like me, you do too. Go there. You’ll thank me.
