This pic shows vivid purple amethyst glass stones I have in my shop right now. I just got more in and am very happy about that – these are a customer favorite! They’re 10mm x 10mm, which is approximately 3/8″. These are hand set (yes I do that part) in silver plated brass, antique patina brass, or golden raw brass settings – in one ring or two ring styles.
They’re terrific for earrings, used “as is” or linked with other beads or stones. And, used alone, they’re lovely as a small pendant. Of course combining them with other jewels is fabulous too.
And they’re on sale – if you see this blog post, that is 😉 From today through midnight on Sunday, February 15, 2026, when you buy one pair you get another pair free. All you have to do to get your free pair is mention this blog post after you order. And yes it’s just while supplies last – but hey, I did just get more in!
The term “cushion cut stones” refer to an octagonal shape with rounded corners. This is one of the most popular shapes I offer in my shop. They have enough presence to work as pendants – and of course are also useful as connector links, and earring jewels. This pic shows just a few of the colors I currently have available in this popular shape and size.
Of course, these attractive glass stones are (1) attractive, (2) affordable, and (3) easy to use. Don’t laugh, these are the most important criteria!
And I should probably also add, it’s important to have fun making your DIY jewelry!
I love it when DIY jewelry is easy to make! Beautiful stones are top of the list of course, and affordable supplies are important too. (Okay, really important.) But easy to make is also very cool!
These aqua blue glass octagons in two sizes are a great example. Link them with jump rings for dangling earrings or pendants. Of course there are many other colors (and shapes) to choose from in my shop but I do think these are a great example of what I’m talking about.
And like I’ve said before – make great jewelry for sale or gifts, or for yourself – and have fun!
A lot of times I just work with faceted glass stones – but I found these gorgeous golden brass filigree flowers a while back (I’ve featured them a time or two I think!) and I just had to play with them again. This time I added glass pears in olivine green – somehow that seemed especially Spring-like. Hey, it’s really cold outside – I mean, this is January – and Spring just sounds inviting!
Of course this concept would work with other color teardrops – or shapes, for that matter. Think about it, this would be great with small round stones, or ovals, or – well check out various different stones in my shop and play with ideas that work for you!
I’ve said it before but really it deserves to be mentioned: making your own beautiful jewelry – for gifts, for sale, or for yourself – doesn’t have to be difficult. Or expensive. And remember to have fun with it!
I just wanted you to see that neutral glass gems make wonderful earrings too! Now I know this is not News, but last blog entery I was talking about bright rich colors, which are great of course. But neutral is also very cool! And this is a good excuse to show off how well these two shapes work together:
The crystal clear ovals here are 18mm x 13mm, that’s approximately 3/4″ x 1/2″. The diagonal square or diamond shape black diamond (gray) stones are 10mm x 10mm, or about 3/8″. Link them with jump rings as shown here, and you’ve got a terrific pair of earrings – or pendant. They’re big enough to be bold but not heavy and that matters, yknow? And of course you can adapt this idea – just search my shop for the colors that work best for you.
But honestly, gray and crystal clear? These look good year round, on every skin tone, and they go with pretty much everything. This really works!
(Oh – the mannequin I use for these pics is pretty close to life size, so you can get a pretty good idea of the scale of these stones. Just saying!)
The jewels shown in this pic are just an example of how rich color can carry a simple design. As shown here, this design would totally work as earrings, of course. But make one rather than two – and you have a dangling pendant 🙂
And really the idea I love right now is that rich color is always in style! Of course you’ll choose your favorites – or raid your own worktable for special colors. But do remember that you can search for just the colors you want in my shop – and you don’t have to spend a lot of money! So – make jewelry that you love, that looks great, and start the new year off with rich color!
Blue zircon is one of those rich colors that look good year round – on almost every skin tone. And just in case you’re looking for an appropriate birthday gift and Christmas gift combined, for a December birthday girl – zircon is one of the colors considered a birthstone color for December! (It’s a bit trickier for some reason, for December… blue zircon, blue topaz, and a few other ‘blue’ gemstones are all considered December colors. Go figure!)
And as you can see, these handsome blue zircon glass stones make fabulous dangling earrings or pendants!
And yes there should still be time to order these stones – and get them in time for Christmas! Yes it’s getting close – but I mail next day, and the USPS has been pretty terrific this year. No guarantee – but it’s worth a shot when your DIY jewelry is so easy to make – and fabulous!
You know that DIY jewelry does not have to be difficult or complicated to be beautiful. It can be, of course – complex, intricate designs can be fabulous. But sometimes you want something you can do NOW, or you’re just starting out and you want to make gifts, but you don’t want to slave over them or spend a fortune. Well – you don’t have to! Case in point:
This is quite a lovely necklace. Vary the color of the chain when appropriate, or use a bolder chain (or a simpler one). Slip on a pendant as pretty as this one, and you have a terrific necklace!
Now honestly, another advantage here is that the color known as “rainbow vitrail” always has several tones. They’re all different, so you won’t likely find an exact match a month or two later. But similar, complementary, and equally lovely? Yeah, that’s totally do-able.
And yes there’s an added bonus: from today through Friday, December 19, 2025, when you buy any vitrail glass gems in my shop, you get a second one (pair, or pendant) for free. Just mention this blog post – and don’t wait!
And yes there’s still time to order these for Christmas – I ship next day 😉
Garnet red is a rich, deep jewel tone that’s flattering on everyone – not difficult to wear like, say, lime green is (though that’s totally a fun color!) And garnet has long been associated with love 🙂
Which is a pretty cool concept when you’re thinking of making some Christmas gifts, or perhaps selling some favorite jewelry styles that your customers love. Garnet – great in winter, but think how fabulous with a turquoise tank top in summer, too. This rich color just works!
And right now the garnet glass stones in my shop are on sale – from today through Friday, December 12, 2025, you can buy one pair – and get one free! Just mention this blog post when you order. Limited to what I have available right now – but I stocked up.
Make some fabulous Christmas gifts – there’s still time!
The faceted glass, multi-stone teardrop in this listing is often used for earrings – I wanted to show how lovely it can be as a pendant!
The jewel (multi stone) is 26mm x 13mm – that’s approximately one inch high. The teardrop shape here is what’s called “colorado topaz” – a light golden tan. And you pick the small round stone at the top of the setting – so it’s easy to customize these. Her favorite outfit is an aqua sweater with a tan skirt? Pick aqua blue for the tiny stones here! You get the idea. Customize the jewels – and make an easy to use, easy to wear pendant!
