I’ve discovered a wonderful vintage shop! Take a look at these adorable vintage brass bookends – and click through to the shop (I’ll wait).
You can tell a lot about the quality of a shop just from the pics. The attention to detail (can you see the item clearly, are the pics informative as well as eye-catching). Then read the comments that previous customers have written – in this case, glowing and detailed.
Kemble Richards is run by a mother and daughter duo and you can tell they love what they do – the great finds, the great pics, the great customer service. This is the kind of shop we want to find, and covet, and visit when birthdays and holidays come around.
And: brass duck bookends. They’re fabulous *and* functional. Love!
This glass (rhinestone) jewels set has been super popular lately – I think because it’s a rich color that looks good year round, and it probably doesn’t hurt that amethyst is the ‘color of love’ 🙂
And hey. Beautiful vintage jewels in an easy-to-use pendant and earring jewels set – add a chain, add earwires, and you’re good to go? This is a win!
Yes they’re available in my Etsy jewelry supplies shop. But you knew that 🙂
I love that this dress feels very modern – but it’s vintage. It’s got such clean lines – and a fabulous color – and it’s not *ordinary*, you know?
And I love the staging! This is why good pics are important: the girl in this pic looks like she’s enjoying herself. She looks like she could be having fun, that she likes where she is, and who she is. That’s how she looks. That’s what I want a dress to do for me!
Plus it’s actually modest – for those times when you need that – but it doesn’t look stupid like most “modest” dresses do. She looks cool, and I don’t mean temperature. I like her – she’s got attitude. That’s not the dress talking – but it’s all part of the package. And it WORKS.
You’ll find this great dress at Vintage Life and Design and even if this fab dress is gone when you visit, you will be glad you’re there. Shelly, the owner, has such great finds you are going to be doing some Real Shopping.
Gunne Sax. A vintage white wedding purse. Cheetah print shoes – yes, I mean it. You will thank me!
I love neutrals and white for home decor. It’s restful and feels very fresh and clean. And a great thing about neutrals? When you add a pop of color, it really shines. Case in point:

See what I mean? Put these darling vases off-center on your thrifted coffee table, or on a shelf near your window. You’ll smile every time you see them.
I found them at Hearts Ease Vintage at Etsy – and you’ll find lots of fun goodies there. Salt spoons. A vivid red hat. Laura Ingalls Wilder 🙂
And lots more. You need to go look, you’ll thank me!
Since I saw that fabulous wedding gown (see previous post), I couldn’t resist showing you these pretty jewels – they’re perfect for a bride!
Of course they’d be lovely for other occasions but there are a couple of reason I think particularly of weddings. One of course is the beautiful sparkling crystal navette jewels Second: the low cost. Both those aspects are particularly attractive when you’re planning your wedding 😉
The third main reason is that this lovely feminine shape and size will sparkle beautifully – but they’re not large and heavy. They’ll be comfy and they won’t compete with your gown. Or with you.
And you should be the star of your wedding – not your jewelry. I’m a jewelry designer and I sell jewelry supplies and I’m serious. You = the star. Your wedding. That’s the way it ought to be!
I wish I needed a wedding dress (and that this lovely gown was my size). This beautiful wedding gown is vintage, is in great shape, and if you are in the market at ALL, please keep reading!
Because: beautiful ivory white fabric with what looks almost like trapumto detailing (machine done but still). Strapless, with tags STILL ON. And a train. A bit of sitting-in-storage dust so it needs to be cleaned – but, unworn!
It’s beautiful, it’s classic *and* classy. It’s available from Vic’s Vintage Closet on Etsy. And (probably because Vic is moving, and everything in her lovely shop is on sale) it is selling for $45.00 plus shipping. I am not kidding!
If it’s gone by the time you see this post, then you still want to peek. Because she has such lovely items – a Calvin Klein jacket, a Diane von Furstenburg dress, a Liz Claiborne bag – oh, you’ve got to go look.
You are going to thank me!
Seriously, I have found the most enchanting dress. I know I’ve said this before, but LOOK. It’s just. Exactly what a dress should be.
I found it at Voyeur Vintage on Etsy and as you can imagine, the owner Tania has some wonderful and delectable finds. Well, you knew that, as soon as you saw her fabulous photo: not only is this the best dress you will have seen in years, but the staging and the accessories are beyond wonderful.
This dress, this oh-this-little-thing-that-I-just-happened-to-put-on is totally going to, well, it could transform your closet. Or your date. Or your life. Or none of the above, but, you know, just be fun and fabulous and make you feel like a queen. Isn’t that what a dress is supposed to do?
Well okay, these are not post earrings, yet. They are the classic rhinestone octagon jewels that will be post earrings as soon as you add the posts. But come on, that’s just a detail 🙂
Even if you (usually) like chandelier, dangling earrings, there are times when you want a small, comfortable earring that sits there quietly and still looks fabulous. Maybe you’re having a Serious Meeting (with conservative types). Or meeting your (possibly conservative) in-laws. Or you just don’t want your earrings hanging down while you chop firewood for your cabin. (Hey! guy in the back! women can cut firewood, you know.)
My point? find some earring posts and some jewelry glue (use the good stuff). Add posts to these flat-back settings. You will have created a simple, classic pair of earrings that will be in style for approximately 40 centuries. (Yes I’m exaggerating, except I’m not because these will always be in style.)
Seriously. Always.
And here’s a(nother) terrific example of why I love vintage. Is this dress not adorable?
True, it isn’t really old vintage. It’s only 20 or 30 years old. Somehow that doesn’t bother me (and yes I’m being a little snarky). It’s a totally cool dress – literally and figuratively. It would be uber flattering. It would be comfy. And I’d have to doublecheck the fabric but I bet it’s washable too. Ergo: the perfect summer dress. Not too dressy – but pretty – can be worn anywhere and feel as good as it looks.
And it’s – you are not going to believe this – it is $15.00. Fifteen dollars! It’s available from Reds Vintage Threads vintage shop on Etsy – and Maegan, the owner, has LOTS of goodies there.
Like I said – totally of the good – go shopping!
This shimmering, sheer light amethyst purple is one of the prettiest colors (okay, color ranges) for summer.
And yes – as pretty much always – there are differences in the colors! They’re all “light amethyst” – and they coordinate beautifully – but different manufacturers from different years (decades) didn’t always make exactly the same color.
Of course if you need your jewels to match, we can do that too. And yes, they’re all available in my Etsy jewelry supplies shop. The ones I show here are the sheer jewels (no foil backs) – they have a different sort of sparkle than the foil-back amethyst. You can find those too 😉
