The birthstones for December are all lovely colors in blue gemstones – turqoise, blue zircon, tanzanite, and blue topaz. Well I have some terrific glass stones in those colors right here in my shop:  Just click on the pic to see more shapes and sizes of these pretty glass stones. And the best part of this is that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get gorgeous December-birthstone jewelry. Do it yourself, make gorgeous jewelry gifts, and save! Okay, to be accurate I should say the “birthstone color” for November – because the beautiful glass jewels shown in this pic, and more topaz glass jewels in my shop, are pretty – but not “precious gemstones”. You don’t need to pay those kinds of prices for lovely stones!  I like to show off these stones anytime – but especially this month, since topaz is the birthstone (okay birthstone color) this month. It’s easy to get your jewelry supplies in a few days – I really do ship quickly, usually next business day. And it’s easy to make gifts for your November bestie or sister or mom. Easy for you to make some pretty jewelry – that’s easy for them to love! The emerald green faceted glass pears are shown here in two-jewel prong settings. Shown exactly “as is”, these are lovely earring jewels (or a slender pendant). This style is a favorite in my shop – this is a classic, feminine style. And these jewels have another special feature!  Aside from being pretty, and (with emerald teardrops) the birthstone color for May – you can choose the color of the tiny round stones at the top of the setting. These are customizeable! So you can combine the birthstone colors of your kids. Or your favorite green-and-(fill in the blank)color. You decide – which is the way it should be, with do it yourself jewelry! Of course red is a fabulous color for jewelry anyway – we know that. It’s flattering to most skin tones, it can be casual or dressy, it’s the main color of at least two holidays, and it’s just fun to wear! And…ruby red is the birthstone color for July. So I thought I’d highlight a few of the ruby red glass jewels available in my shop right now.  So if you need a birthday gift for a bestie born in July, you might find some ideas here. Or if you want something to match the red shirt you just bought. Or if you want to subtly point out a few things that would be perfect in your eyes and somebody wants to buy *you* a gift… you get the idea. Get what works for you! The pendant shown in this DIY necklace design idea is available right now in my shop – in several colors (so you can pick your favorite!)  Shown “as is” it’s a lovely necklace. You can request that your glass jewels be set in silver plated brass as shown, or in antiqued patina brass, or golden raw brass. Select a complementary necklace chain, and you’ll have a gorgeous necklace! And a very cool detail – you can choose the color of the tiny stone at the top of the setting. That way you can customize your colors. If this is a necklace you’re making as a gift for your girlfriend, you can choose the two birthstone colors of her daughters. Or just choose her favorites. Or yours. That’s the beauty of DIY jewelry – you can make it just the way you want! The light gray “black diamond” glass gems shown in these earrings are cabochons with interesting, ‘checker’ faceting. They look great in these two jewel settings, combining the black diamond pears and tiny round crystals.  And one of the great attributes of these jewels is that you can customize them – you pick the color of the tiny round stone at the top of the setting. Black diamond (gray) with sparkling crystal, as shown, is great – but what about birthstone colors? Or vivid contrast? There are many colors you can choose from – I think you’ll love them! If you stop to think about it, knowing designated birthstones and birthstone colors can be really handy. Suppose you want to give someone a bit, and you know they love jewelry, and you really don’t want to spend precious – expensive – gemstone money. We all know what that’s like, right? But knowing the month’s gemstone colors can work. Sometimes it’s not even appropriate to spend big bucks on a gift for a friend, potential girlfriend, cousin, whoever is your giftee. But spending moderate dollars on things that she’ll like, that are a bit personalized – like her birthstone? That’s definitely appropriate.  So we know that the birthstone for March is aquamarine. And the birthstone color… is aqua blue. Here you go – some gorgeous glass gemstones in aqua! And yes there are more aqua stones in my shop. Go peek! These lightweight, delicate-seeming earrings are great for every day – and hey, if you need emerald earrings for a special occasion? These have the fabulous color of precious gemstone emeralds – without the high price tag! 
These would be great for May birthstone earrings – but they’d also look good with blue jeans. You know: as jewelry ought to. You’ll love them! It’s always a good idea to keep birthstone colors in mind, for the gifts you want to give or product you want to make. Note I didn’t say “birthstones”, which implies precious gems. Those are wonderful of course, but we don’t all have the budget for them. Birthstone colors, on the other hand, are every bit as appropriate – and we can all do this. Right now let’s focus on birthdays from November through February. So, your birthstone colors would be: November – golden topaz December – blue zircon (teal or turquoise) January – garnet red February – amethyst purple
So for your birthday girls, or customers that are requesting birthstones – you know you can make their special jewelry. Don’t spend a fortune – make lovely DIY jewelry that doesn’t cost a lot. You’ll love it – and so will they! These peridot green glass gems are new in my shop – I’ve had peridot glass pears in 18x13mm size, but now I have more petite 14x10s as shown in the pic. These are wonderful “as is” for earrings and small(ish) pendants – but are also fabulous when paired with 10x8mm peridot green glass octagons.  Made into earrings, these gems have great sparkle and presence (love that color!) but they’re not heavy. And of course, peridot is the August gemstone color… great for making DIY jewelry gifts, and for customers. Just saying! |
