This post is just bragging – I’ve recently gotten some more aqua glass jewels and I’m just in love with this color. Call it aqua – or turquoise – it’s gorgeous!

Yes, these are all available in my Etsy online store. I’ve got more than just the ones shown in the pic above – but I have to say, these are among my favorites.
The color is probably the most universally flattering jewel you can find (okay, except real, large-carat diamonds, and if you can afford those it doesn’t matter what color your clothing is). And it looks good year-round: turquoise and a summer tan? Winner. Turquoise with black and white, or tan and cream, in winter? Bingo. Win-win.
Affordable, flattering, gorgeous: aqua jewels. Do it yourself and save – and look GOOD. (Yes, that could be my tagline!)
This necklace design shows one way to add just a little extra pizzazz – and highlights the idea of repeating a motif or design element:
The crystal rhinestone pear jewel as a design element is repeated three times here. The central two-jewel “duo” pendant measures just a smidge over one inch long and is the focal of this necklace. Yes, it’s available here in my Etsy shop – all these jewels are (of course I used my own stuff for the example here)!
I repeated the “crystal teardrop” element in two similar-but-not-identical shapes. It doesn’t have to be teardrops. Try the same idea with round beads or crystals, in ascending size to the central, larger pendant.
It adds an extra bit of design excitement 🙂
This idea isn’t original with me – it probably started back in the Stone Age. Take the idea – run with it – make it your own!
I was looking for a vintage ruby rhinestone necklace recently – a customer request made me curious. She was looking for a Miriam Haskell (or knockoff). Anyway it got me to looking, and I found to my surprise that there were very few to be found! I’m not sure why red, or ruby, is a hard color to find.
I had just made a classic style, ruby rhinestone necklace for another customer – obviously this one isn’t vintage (though the ovals are true vintage, made in West Germany about 50 years ago). I thought it turned out well:
It’ll be a wonderful Valentine’s present – and yes, it’ll be available through Weekend Jewelry. It’s not even onsite yet – but will be pronto!
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves – people do have birthdays in December! There’s so much activity centered around Christmas, let’s remember our birthday girls too 🙂
The birthstones – or birthstone colors – for December can vary according to the source, how traditional or modern, etc. But in general, these are considered to be the birthday colors for December:
Blue zircon, turquoise, and blue topaz (yes, the colors are often gemstone-oriented!)
And I just happen to have some lovely turquoise, aqua, and blue zircon vintage glass jewels in my Etsy jewelry supplies shop. Like these:

Aqua is actually one of my most popular colors – I think because it’s universallly flattering. I usually have more shapes available – and in December it’s also birthstone-appropriate!
I wanted to show off this outrageous color – these are new rhinestone jewels I just listed in my Etsy shop:

I actually took pics of the pear jewels with the foil backing (this is the way they arrived) – see the top half of this pic. I removed the foil, just to see how they looked – I think I might like the sheer jewels even better. But it’s a close call!
They make wonderful party jewelry for you or as a gift – and like good DIY, they cost a lot less than buying ready-made. If you’re looking for hot pink or fuschia jewels, I bet you’ll love these 🙂
Green rhinestone jewels – in their many incarnations – well, they’re special. Partly because I’m a redhead – well, sometimes, with just a little help 🙂 Partly because the tang of olivene green is always fresh – and peridot sparkles – and emerald green? Well, let’s just say emerald is flattering on almost everyone – I mean, really flattering. And it’s gorgeous. And looks expensive.
For example – these are just some of the green vintage glass jewels I’ve got in my Etsy shop right now:

You see what I mean? Flatterng. Affordable. Gorgeous 🙂
P.S. Yes, I’m on my “vintage glass beads or jewels” kick. Funny how used we are to using “beads” in our jewelry – even when technically they’re not beads because they have no holes (so, they’re “stones”). But people like to say “beads”. So, well, “beads” it is, sometimes 🙂
I was thinking recently about vintage rhinestones, and that led me to vintage jewelry, and that led me to fine vintage jewelry, and of course that led me to the Duchess of Windsor.
She had own style, that’s for sure. Take a look at this pin!

Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby Flamingo Pin belonging to the Duchess of Windsor
Actually I think Wallis Simpson is a pretty fascinating woman – and story. And she certainly loved jewelry. The good stuff. I think I read recently that a collection of her fine jewelry was sold at auction for $12.5 million. With an M.
Kinda out of my league – so far out that it doesn’t even bother me.
I really like that pin – but honestly, I’d like it just as much if it was silver plated metal with crystal chatons and little baguette rhinestones. Now all I’ve got to do is find a flamingo pin to play with 🙂
I just think it’s interesting, the different colors that have gotten one name in the jewelry biz over the past few decades.
Like the title says – these are all “rose pink”:

Rose Pink Vintage Glass Jewels
And these are not even all the examples I have of that color name – only the pics I had with white backgrounds.
All the shades are lovely. They’re just not the same. No wonder people get confused sometimes when they’re ordering a certain color!
All are available at Weekendjewelry1 on Etsy (yes, it’s my shop). And all are available in patina brass, golden brass, or shining silver plated settings. If you don’t see one of the listings, just send me a note!
I just thought I’d give a peek at some of the goodies I have in my Etsy jewelry supplies shop. I love these little sparklies – and I hope you will too 🙂
Of course they make wonderful holiday jewelry – for yourself, or maybe even more, to make some lovely gifts without having to spend a lot of time – or money.
PS Do you know someone who’s getting married soon? What a wonderful gift, to make bridal jewelry for your BFF!
