I don’t often do “matching” stones in a necklace – I usually prefer variations in color, size, shape. But sometimes, stones that match can be fun!
Sometimes, just sometimes, you want the gorgeous texture and shape to be the same – to highlight the beautiful color. These vintage stones are fabulous!
Now honestly, this is a simple idea – use matching stones in two different sizes to make a terrific necklace. And also of course, you can use different colors, shapes, and textures – make the idea your own. That’s what makes DIY so fabulous!
Just for a minute, let’s look past Christmas and think about next year. Next springtime. Warm weather and sunny skies. Hey, it’s a nice thought!
Now of course the important thing is that these are lovely glass jewels – anytime. And maybe you like to think of gifts to make for next year, or earrings for you or your customers that aren’t meant for the holiday season. These gems are light and filled with sparkling facets and flattering color.
Click on the pic (it’s a link) – you might find the perfect shape and size glass gem you need!
I love vintage glass jewels (note the name of this blog!) The quality tends to be high, and the fact that there is no additional manufacturing footprint just makes these gems more attractive.
Honestly the only downside in my eyes is that these gems are often not re-orderable. I have a couple of very reliable suppliers of vintage jewelry supplies, and I love them – but they can only find what they can find. So if you have your eye on a particular style / color of vintage glass beads or gem in my shop, you might not to wait too long – they are available “as long as supplies last”.
As always, if there’s something particular you’re looking for – I might (still) have some – it doesn’t hurt to ask!
Great DIY jewelry – using vintage glass jewels – is the best!
You know that jewelry is a lovely Christmas gift, for your mom, your bestie, your sisters. And of course, if you make your own jewelry, you give a very personal gift – and you save money!
And it’s always fun when you use “traditional” Christmas colors for your DIY jewelry.
Red and green glass jewels are always appropriate for Christmas – and when you use faceted crystal alone or combined with colors, you get year-round sparkle!
Great DIY jewelry – great prices – this is super for do it yourself jewelry!
Here’s an example of totally neutral colors in a new earring design. These are classic shapes – rounds and octagons. The combination is classy, simple, and inexpensive. This works!
Really I just wanted to show that earrings don’t have to have bright colors to be fabulous. You could wear these all year round – with any color – and they’ll be a great addition to your outfit. Or your customer’s outfit. Just saying…
And these gems are on sale through Friday, November 26, 2021! Buy any pair of the black diamond 14x10mm octagons (in your choice of settings color) – and the crystal 10mm round gems are free. You just have to send a message and ask!
Great DIY earrings – and super sale prices – this is great do it yourself jewelry!
I love earrings with chain as an added element. It’s a lightweight, and frankly easy, way to add movement and texture to your earring design. It’s easy to match the settings color on your jewels – if you want to 🙂
The chain shown here is stainless steel, not sterling silver – it won’t tarnish and it’s strong. It looks great with the crystal diamond shape gems.
Or use another color – of glass jewels, or chain, or both. Take this design as a starting point and make it your own!
More pretty red and green glass gems are on sale through this weekend! And I deliberately chose (for this pic) jewels that are sheer – and foil backed. And different shapes. These could be combined in so many creative ways (that’s your thing!) – and of course there are many more to choose from in my Etsy shop.
Christmas is only five weeks away! So this is a great time to get some gorgeous red and green glass jewels (or beads!) – and right now they’re on sale too.
From today through midnight on Sunday, November 21, 2021, if you buy any of my glass gems in red or green, just send me a message and tell me what pair you want for FREE! Equal or lesser value, and it’s limited to stock on hand. But I’ve resupplied so I’ve got quite a few red and green glass gems. They’re beautiful – and on sale. Go for it!
You’ve probably seen me use multiple chains before in a necklace design – I think it’s a great way to add texture, acomplexity and movement to a necklace design.
Partly I wanted to illustrate that even a transparent jewel – the teardrop pendant – can add sparkle and presence. The chains just add a bit of “more”, when it’s not just a single chain. And you may have noticed the loop of chain that anchors the pendant. That loop – and pendant – is removable. So you have a multi strand chain necklace with no pendant at all. Two necklaces in one!
As always, I’m hoping this idea will spark your own creative juices. That’s what DIY is – or should be – all about. Do it yourself – the way you want it!
Peach glass gems or jewels are a customer favorite – in light peach or dark peach shades. And this week they’re on sale!
The sale isn’t listed on my shop front page though – you have to ask when you purchase an item. But it’s simple: buy any peach item in my shop and send me a message that you want a second item free! That’s all there is to it.
The sale is good today through midnight on Friday, November 13, 2021. It’s equal or lesser value, and limited to stock on hand – but it’s also a great deal. DIY jewelry supplies you’ll love!
I was trying new combos on my workbench – and thought these glass jewels, photoed to make a new earring design, were pretty wonderful.
The aqua glass teardrops are vintage, made in post-war Japan – that’s post World War II, so around 1950. The round crystal gems are new rhinestones with rivoli faceting. The combination of different shapes and intensities (sparkling crystal paired with opaque glass) adds an extra element.
Aqua is one of the most flattering colors – almost everybody can wear it beautifully. And the crystal rounds give enough sparkle to turn these earrings from year-round fabulous to holiday glamour.
Of course this pic can – and should – spark your own creative combinations – that’s what DIY is all about!
