Clear Teardrop Pendant with Silver Chain – DIY Necklace Design

You’ve probably seen me use multiple chains before in a necklace design – I think it’s a great way to add texture, acomplexity and movement to a necklace design.

Partly I wanted to illustrate that even a transparent jewel – the teardrop pendant – can add sparkle and presence. The chains just add a bit of “more”, when it’s not just a single chain. And you may have noticed the loop of chain that anchors the pendant. That loop – and pendant – is removable. So you have a multi strand chain necklace with no pendant at all. Two necklaces in one!

As always, I’m hoping this idea will spark your own creative juices. That’s what DIY is – or should be – all about. Do it yourself – the way you want it!

Peach glass gems or jewels are a customer favorite – in light peach or dark peach shades. And this week they’re on sale!

The sale isn’t listed on my shop front page though – you have to ask when you purchase an item. But it’s simple: buy any peach item in my shop and send me a message that you want a second item free! That’s all there is to it.

The sale is good today through midnight on Friday, November 13, 2021. It’s equal or lesser value, and limited to stock on hand – but it’s also a great deal. DIY jewelry supplies you’ll love!

Aqua and Crystal Earring Design Idea

I was trying new combos on my workbench – and thought these glass jewels, photoed to make a new earring design, were pretty wonderful.

The aqua glass teardrops are vintage, made in post-war Japan – that’s post World War II, so around 1950. The round crystal gems are new rhinestones with rivoli faceting. The combination of different shapes and intensities (sparkling crystal paired with opaque glass) adds an extra element.

Aqua is one of the most flattering colors – almost everybody can wear it beautifully. And the crystal rounds give enough sparkle to turn these earrings from year-round fabulous to holiday glamour.

Of course this pic can – and should – spark your own creative combinations – that’s what DIY is all about!

Clearance Sale Items – Glass Jewels for DIY Jewelry

It’s getting to be gift-giving season (though of course it’s always a good time to make gifts). I thought you might be interested in a few of the items I have on clearance sale right now!

These jewels are while-supplies-last so you might want to go check, just in case there’s that exact color / shape you’re looking for!

And of course, making jewelry for gifts – or for yourself – is a fabulous way to be creative AND save money. Talk about a great idea!

Amethyst and Sapphire Glass Earrings Design

Another vivid color combination – faceted glass gems in amethyst purple, and sapphire blue – try these for a gorgeous pair of earrings!

Really this is just another way to urge you to try your own color combinations – your own design elements – and make DIY jewelry that reflects what you love!

It doesn’t hurt that making your own jewelry can save you a lot of money – and you can make JUST what you want. DIY = do it yourself – you’ll love it!

Necklace Design Idea with Red and Purple

Pretty jewels off my workbench – I tried a new combination, a deep amethyst purple ‘checkerboard’ faceted square diamond shape that measures 10mm x 10mm (approx. 3/8″) paired with a vivid red teardrop pendant (it’s 25mm x 18mm, about 1″ x 3/4″).

It’s not a combination I would have grabbed as first choice – but I love it. Yes, it helps if it works with your outfit – and who wears red with purple? Well I have been known to do that – I bet you have too…!

Try new colors – don’t spend a lot of money – and make fabulous jewelry for yourself and for gifts.

Now that’s what DIY is all about!

Christmas Necklace – Design Idea

Just for fun – imagine some pretty glass teardrop jewels combined with delicate brass filigree. Now add Christmas colors 🙂

Wouldn’t that be fun to wear to a Christmas party?

Of course the other thing this picture reminds me of, is that when we design our own jewelry (or clothing, or home interiors) we can combine the colors we love – and have fun with it!

Isn’t that what DIY is all about? Use what you love – create – you can make it work!

Sapphire Vintage Glass Gems – September birthstone

Sapphire blue is always a customer favorite – year round. And these pretty sapphire blue glass gems are also the rich gorgeous color of the September birthstone.

The combination of sapphire blue, vintage glass diamond shape gems with slender teardrop or pear stones is perfect for earrings with a lot of presence – but not a lot of weight. I love gorgeous earrings that aren’t heavy!

These might be just the style that your best friend, or your mom, or you would love – and customers love them too. Just saying!

And oops, I meant to post this earlier, for timely September birthday gifts. But it’s still a good idea to mention – for your September birthday girls – but also Christmas. And, well, just for you!

Clear Glass Bracelet Design Idea – and a Special Offer

I made this bracelet to see how these totally clear glass cabochons would work as a bracelet. Their only color comes from the settings, and they’re not faceted – so how would they look? Would they have any sparkle?

And the answer is yes!

Now about that special I mentioned above! When you click on the pic you’ll find the clear octagons. The bracelet as shown is made with ten octagons. If you want to make this bracelet, you’d need 5 pairs. But if you order 4 pairs, just mention to me when you order that you’d like a free pair! It’s that simple.

Offer good through August 31, 2021 at midnight. Have fun making your bracelet! I think you’ll love it.

New DIY Earring Design Idea

Last night I tried this combination of amethyst and emerald glass jewels – and discovered it was fabulous!

this isn’t a color combination you necessarily expect to see – which I think is one great reason to try it. Also – if I had a fabulous purple sweater, I’d definitely try it with dark green skirt or pants. They aren’t “matching” but they would complement each other. And it’s just fun to try new colors!

Like these. Really, aside from being a fun combo, it reminds us to TRY stuff. Can’t hurt. Might be great!
