I just wanted to show how much fun it can be to combine two different elements – the classic teardrops, and large(ish) jump rings – in your do-it-yourself earrings 🙂
These jump rings are stainless steel and very strong – they’re not going to slip open. And they add an extra element of movement to your earrings. Of course you could use any color and for that matter, any shape glass jewels – the idea still works 🙂
And be sure to mention this blog post for a BOGO sale – buy one, get one free. Buy one pair of teardrops and get another pair free! Just tell me the color and style you want (equal or lesser value and all that). This sale is good through August 15, 2020, and only while supplies last – so don’t wait!
Now these are truly “Statement Earrings” – bold and strong. I show them here in Black Diamond, a neutral that looks great year round – but of course you could use any color rhinestones. Or combination of colors, come to think of it – I may post more pics later just to show some examples!
The pear or teardrop shaped stones here are larger than I usually wear – but they make such an impact! And I don’t mean “weight” impact – they’re not that heavy. Paired with the faceted octagons, they’re just classy 🙂
And yes, if you’re thinking ahead, these would be fabulous Christmas prezzies for your bff or your mom. Or for you. Or for New Year’s Eve. Know what I mean, right?
P.S. Oh! The “sale” I mentioned – for the rest of July 2020, if you buy the black diamond 25×18 teardrops (if you want to make earrings you’ll need two, they’re listed onsite as singles) – send me a note and I’ll include the 10x8mm octagons for free. Limited time offer and all that – just mention this blog post (and remember, this is through July 31, 2020!)
Peridot is the birthstone (color) for August, so I was playing with jewelry design ideas featuring peridot crystal gems that I have. Once I pulled out these two elements – the peridot crystal pendant, and the golden brass flower connector link – the combination seemed irresistible 🙂
Use a golden chain, with or without a connecting jump ring – and you’ll have an easy-but-gorgeous necklace!
Hint: mom would love this. Or your bestie. Or maybe you should keep it, just to, you know, field test the design 🙂
It’s so easy to say “in these troubled times, take a few moments to make something pretty for a loved one – or yourself”. But I think it’s good advice. You don’t want to worry about anything complicated, or expensive. But it’s a treat to make something as a gift – you know how good that feels to give a gift 🙂
And it feels nice to have a pretty new trinket to wear, too. Even if it’s just for yourself, in quarantine.
Take care, and have a little fun!
You’ve probably noticed by now that I really believe in cute earrings that are also easy to make, and don’t cost a fortune. Nobody should have to work that hard to have pretty jewelry – and most of us get a little ‘lift’ from having new pretties. It doesn’t fix the world but it’s a tiny nice perk 🙂
Like this earring design idea:
It’s an easy idea to use – and adapt with your own components. Though of course I’d be happy to send you some 😉
These are specially nice because they have movement and color (you can choose the color of course!) – but they’re lightweight and not too big (sometimes we want delicate!) And I have similar charms in silver plated brass. So – golden or silver (color), you can do this!
Of course you know why I thought of Christmas when I made these earrings – hey, they’re red and green and sparkly. But honestly, they would look good anytime. And (also of course) you could use any color combination.
I am really fond of these. Partly because they have sparkly color that really shows up, but the jewels are small – so these would be really comfortable to wear all day long. And, the silver plated chains add such movement! That’s one of those classic design elements that I really love – with a minimum amount of work, the chains add a lot of style. It’s just a bit of extra fun, you know?
Really – take this idea and make it yours. And, or, maybe some Christmas earring gifts! Just because 🙂
Like a lot of us – most of us I hope – I’m staying home right now, finding things to do around the house, keeping my online business going even if times are weird, and sometimes playing with pretty sparkies in my workshop. There is no deep significance, it’s just that sometimes a pretty little bauble can lift the spirits, and I can rationalize it by saying “it’s business”.
Well it is, but it’s also that I like making pretties, and trying new combinations. You know how that is 🙂
I tried out this new combination for earrings and I think they’re lovely!
I really like the combination of the vintage peridot crystal teardrops and peach rivoli faceted round gems – and of course the design could be adapted to all sorts of color combos.
You see what I mean, though. It doesn’t have to be fussy or difficult to make pretty earrings! Or expensive either. It’s just a way to make a little treat for a friend, or for yourself, in these difficult times.
Stay safe!
I meant to update the bracelet idea I mentioned back in September – showing the clear crystal glass gems in silver settings. It’s not surprising that these clear gems adopt the color of the settings – but still seeing it is pretty cool. If you like silver, this style will totally work for you!
And I’ve started a new sale so you can get these adorable cushion cut octagons at an even better price! Just mention this blog post when you buy – and for every pair you buy, you get a pair free! Buy two pairs – get two pairs free. That’s enough to make the bracelet as shown 🙂 (and if you want more for earrings, or a necklace… well, you get the idea!)
Buy one – get one free!
That offer is good till October 30 (at midnight, the witching hour) – so don’t wait too long!
Red is a rich, vivid color, and it always makes your outfit a bit stronger. That’s just my opinion, but I’ll stand by it. These earrings are a great example of how you can combine jewelry components to make fabulous jewelry – and not have to spend a lot of time or money to do it.
Of course you can take this idea and customize the colors (and shapes too) – but the basic concept, pairing a strong color in complementary shapes – really works. And the red? Is perfect for fall – and Christmas is coming.
These would be great for gifts, for your holiday outfits – or just because 🙂
There’s a couple things about this bracelet I wanted to point out. First, these clear gems are so fun when you put them in golden brass settings. Suddenly you have sparkling golden gems (at a much lower price!) And the “cushion cut” faceted gem style works really well for bracelets – good faceting, and not too big or small. The squarish shape (really an octagon with gentle corners) is a classic gemstone cut for a reason 🙂
The bracelet is easy to customize for size – first by varying the number of gems. You can add more small jump rings between each stone, for even more flexibility and subtle size differences. Also, as shown here, adding more (or less) large jump rings at the end make the clasp – and sizing – variable.
This style really works! And as an added incentive – you’ll love this one – the clear cushion cut gems in my shop are on clearance sale! I have quite a few, but still – when they’re gone, they’re gone – you might not want to wait too long.
Besides, since this bracelet can be personalized (size, style and color-wise) it’s a perfect gift for birthdays and Christmas. And hey, for yourself too 🙂
