The birthstone gem for August is peridot. And it’s already August, so this idea is for those of us (yeah, I never do this) who need a nice birthday gift NOW. So – make a pretty pair of earrings or pendant. Peridot green, the August color. And they’re on sale in my shop!

Let’s try an actual list of positives here:
(1) Black goes with everything. Well, pretty much.
(2) Black is always in style. Again – pretty much (or always, I think I was right the first time).
(3) Fall is coming and darker colors work great in Fall.
(4) Not to mention if you make gifts, specially when you don’t know your giftee’s “favorite color” – black always works.

This is one of my favorite necklace designs. Use whatever pendant you like best – in this case, it’s a sparkling peridot green pear.
So aside from the fact that it looks great, if you look closely you can see that the peridot teardrop hangs from a loop of silvery chain that matches the multiple strands of necklace chain (stainless steel chain in this case). And – the pendant is removeable! You could make several pendants of your choice, slip one off the necklace chain and replace it with the color you want to wear, today.
Oh, and the peridot shown here is the birthstone color for August. Just in case you need an August birthday gift!
It’s possible you might think that clear – I mean, totally transparent – earrings will have no pizzazz or presence. Let me argue with that idea!
These vintage glass hearts are nicely faceted, and when you combine faceting with the metal prong settings, you get jewels that will be noticed!
Pretty, romantic heart earrings (great gifts for her, if any of your guy friends are looking!) And you don’t have to spend a lot, or work hard, to make them. Add earwires and you’re good to go!

Wedding season is coming!
That’s true of course. But also true is that sparkling crystal jewelry is always in fashion. It always looks great. It goes with almost everything. And crystal jewelry makes wonderful gifts. So, you knew all that already.
But the “goes with everything” and “makes great gifts” is something to keep in mind. If you want to make a pair of earrings or a pendant or bracelet for your favorite customer, or for your college roomie, or for yourself… you KNOW that crystal is going to look great.
Do it yourself jewelry. Save money. Make personal gifts for your friends. This is a win!

These buff (smooth) fuschia pink earring jewels are vintage, from the 1950s I think! They look pretty fabulous for their age.
Actually they look pretty wonderful for any age. It’s a good color – flattering, and easy for most people to wear. And these vintage gems make super easy do it yourself earrings. You can fancy them up, and add several elements – but they look great “as is”. Add earwires and you’re good to go!

This design is made with three sizes of crystal rhinestone (glass) jewels – shown here are 8mm rounds with rivoli faceting, 10x10mm diamond shapes, and a pear or teardrop focal centerpiece that measures 18x13mm. This would be a wonderful necklace for prom – and (I know you’ve thought of this already) a beautiful bridal necklace. Wedding jewels? Yes!
Run with the idea – using the shapes that work best for you, and a different color – or combination of colors – that could be so much fun!

The emerald glass jewels shown here are just some of the shapes I have available right now – in golden brass or silver settings (antiqued patina brass settings are available too). The wonderful thing about these jewels – well one of the wonderful things – is that it’s so easy to create pendants and earrings, using the prong settings.
