I have an easy earring design for your 2020 holiday earrings today – and if you check out this blog from time to time you’ll recognize two of my favorite elements.
I grabbed these from my worktable – sapphire teardrops in a medium 14x10mm size – and cable chains. The teardrops are inverted, so they point toward the chains. A tiny difference here that I’m going to use more often? Two different chain colors.
One of the main advantages to these multicolor chains is that once you wear jewelry with more than one color metal – every piece of jewelry you own that has metal, can be said to coordinate! No need to wear only silver or only gold. Plus it’s just fun.
Honestly, the different colors of the chains don’t show up as much as I’d like – I’m going to play with this some more. It’s such a useful design direction!
You know I do these every so often – BOGO sales, buy-one-get-one-free sales. Of course it’s a bid to attract new customers – or give a special deal to customers who are checking my blog. It works for me either way. I like to remind my customers of some of the great deals they can get in my shop – and I want new customers to see, and find, the quality and value I try hard to maintain 🙂
And all of a sudden it’s Fall (temp dropped 30-40 degrees in the last 2 days!) and winter is coming. And holidays. And black is always hot, right?
I would bet each of us could use a new pair of black earrings – and that includes your besties, and mom, and you. So from now until midnight on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, when you order any black glass jewels in my shop (pair of jewels, or pendant) you get a second pair free. After you order, just leave a “Note to Seller” and tell me the freebie you want. Equal or lesser value and all that, and limited to supplies on hand. There, that’s the official stuff.
The fun stuff is new jewelry at a great price!
I know it’s early to be thinking of Christmas, but this is a weird year. If you could find some affordable jewelry components that would make a lovely necklace and earrings set, and you could do it easily, and it could be personalized however you chose, and it would be a wonderful gift – that would be a good idea.
So I put together some sheer emerald pears and hey, here’s that necklace and earring jewels set!
Of course it would work any time of year, for yourself or for gifts. Or customers. But Christmas really is coming, and why not save yourself a little time and work and make something wonderful – and easy? That’s a win!
So here’s a necklace design idea I really like:
The style is classic, really – oval cabochons leading to a teardrop shaped centerpiece. But you can have so much fun, mixing colors, maybe styles, shapes, you name it! Take the idea – and make it yours…!
And whatever design and ideas you use, it’s great to make Christmas prezzies for your friends and loved ones – and you save money at the same time. Love that idea!
You know one of the design ideas that I embrace is using different shapes, different textures, different materials? Well I hate to be totally consistent (predictable) – so this time I’m advocating using multiple jewels of the exact same shape and size:
These earrings are long enough – and large enough – to be noticed, but they aren’t heavy at all. And of course can be customized with whatever oolors you like best – or your customer loves – maybe the birthstone colors of her kids. That sort of customization is fun and kind of wonderful. And that personalization makes these DIY earrings a great gift idea (just saying!)
And the jewels here are different colors, so they’re not all matchy-matchy. That counts, right?
It was late at night, I was playing around with glass jewels on my worktable and this design evolved:
As always, take the idea and run with it – using your own choice of shapes and colors. The jump rings add good movement, don’t you think?
Of course, shop here to find beautiful glass gems (and more jewelry supplies!). And mention this blog post to get a free pair of jewels 🙂
It’s always good to remember that fussy, complex design is not the only way to create beauty. Yes, there are designs that require many hours to complete, and complicated elements to create. But sometimes you just need classic, beautiful elements.
Case in point: this necklace idea. Basic cable chain, faceted glass rondelles, and a classic pear shaped pendant combine to make a necklace that would be wonderful for prom, for date night, for work – and in sparkling crystal, wonderful for a bride.
Now is that a great idea or what? Make one to go with your favorite outfit. Or start making Christmas presents now and remember that New Year’s isn’t that far away. Even in this weird, troubled year, we will still find ways to share – and celebrate 🙂
We love lariat necklaces!
They always fit. When you want a special gift for your sweetie, you don’t have to worry about “will it fit”.
When you buy – or make! – one for yourself, you know you’ll be able to wear it with many different necklines. So versatile! And a wise way to spend your jewelry money.
And – I’m going to do more with this soon – you can use more than one color on the featured teardrops, or special jewels at the ends of your lariat. Red – and blue? Why not? Purple and green? Why not?
Or just focus on one gorgeous color, like this emerald-tipped lariat:
Now is that a great gift idea or what? A gift for your bestie, using her kids’ birthstone colors. Or for yourself, with your faves. Save money, make fabulous jewelry, this is a win!
Sometimes you don’t want matchy-matchy – for example, take a look at these adorable drop earrings 🙂
The round glass cabochons shown here are aqua and totally opaque. The jonquil faceted navette jewels are a sparkling contrast to the solid aqua color. The shapes are opposites too – smooth round stones, paired with sharply faceted navettes. It really works! Choose your colors, adapt the idea for your own creativity.
Also it doesn’t hurt that the jewels are on sale 😉 Check them out in my Clearance section. You’ll find some more goodies at terrific sale prices!
As always, the idea is to take a suggested idea and make it your own. And save money while you make terrific jewelry. Isn’t that what it’s all about?
I just wanted to show how much fun it can be to combine two different elements – the classic teardrops, and large(ish) jump rings – in your do-it-yourself earrings 🙂
These jump rings are stainless steel and very strong – they’re not going to slip open. And they add an extra element of movement to your earrings. Of course you could use any color and for that matter, any shape glass jewels – the idea still works 🙂
And be sure to mention this blog post for a BOGO sale – buy one, get one free. Buy one pair of teardrops and get another pair free! Just tell me the color and style you want (equal or lesser value and all that). This sale is good through August 15, 2020, and only while supplies last – so don’t wait!
