I’m opening a new shop! Weekendjewelry.com will showcase my glass beads and rhinestone jewels, vintage and new rhinestones, and other jewelry supplies I love to share. It’s a brand new shop and I’m still tweaking – but I’d be thrilled to have you visit, share your thoughts, and shop!
So as a little “welcome aboard”, I’d like to invite you to use Coupon Code WELCOME when you visit my shop. It’s just good for an introductory period, so please visit – go shopping – and save 15% on your purchase!
And hey, bookmark Weekend Jewelry – I’m going to have some wonderful sales coming up!
This is really just a reminder that it’s fun to mix colors and shapes when you create your own jewelry, or make jewelry for sale or for gifts. Adding a bit of whimsy just makes the pieces more interesting. Case in point, a simple example:
And the “personalized” part? You can choose your favorite colors. Or your birthstone colors combined with your boyfriend’s. Or make a gift for your mom using the birthstone colors of you and your siblings. If you don’t see the colors you need in my jewelry supplies shop, just ask – I’ve almost always got more jewels (and colors) than I’ve had a chance to list!
You see what I mean, anyway – play with new shapes and color combos. It’s fun, it’s inexpensive, and it’s cute!
Sometimes easy is what it’s all about. Take these vintage glass beads (rhinestone jewels) and brass charms, for example:

You can see how pretty they are together. Use a jump ring to link them, add earwires, and you’re good to go! Sometimes intricate is wonderful. Sometimes you don’t want to bother. But you still want to look great.
These look great 🙂
And this is just a quick note – that you don’t have to get fussy and complicated to have a classic pendant or pair of earrings. Find a pretty, flattering color, like these soft pink teardrops:
They’d be lovely for a gift, of course (and Mother’s Day is coming, which I know you don’t need to be reminded or anything). But also for yourself. They don’t cost much, there are a few sizes available so you can be bold or demure (is that still a word?)
They’re inexpensive. They’re easy. That’s a gift in itself. And, you know, springtime. Pink. Looks good.
Because pink is such a pretty Spring color 🙂
Of course there are lots of pink glass gems in my Etsy shop. And if there’s a shape or size you can’t find, just ask me – I might have some or can find some for you. But I just wanted to show some easy DIY pendant and earring beads that don’t cost a lot of money or take a lot of work.
And these would make a wonderful jewelry set for Mother’s Day. Just saying 🙂
This pic is just a way of showing how much fun color can be! I think the white opal glass octagons and fuschia pink teardrop are pretty together:
But it’s the green background I wanted to mention. I know, a graphic background is totally not relevant! Except to show that vivid color, combined with other strong colors, can be really eye-catching. And sometimes you want to do that. You’re wearing a quiet outfit, looks nice but no juice? Add a bright pair of earrings. Or maybe dye your hair green.
Okay, go with the earrings – it’s easier to change them (and they probably cost less too).
Color is fun 🙂
And here’s another idea – a necklace design that could incorporate birthstone colors. Of course this is just one possible style – but sometimes it’s fun to look at designs!
This particular design features a large teardrop-shaped focal pendant in aqua, the birthstone color for March; as well as round rivoli-faceted jewels in crystal (crystal or diamond is the birthstone for April), more aqua blue, and bright red – ruby or siam red is the birthstone color for July.
Obviously you’ll want to customize these colors for your own mom’s necklace – with the shapes and very personal colors of your own design 🙂
Does it seem like I”m obsessed with color these days? Well, yeah. It’s winter (warmish here but still, winter) – it’s gray – and color is always a cheerful pick-me-up. Pretty, charming, happy color doesn’t cost any more than gloomy gray.
(Yes I like neutral gray sometimes. Don’t stop me, I’m orating.)
For instance, take these pretty colors:
Pair these aqua glass connectors and melon orange cabochon two-jewel beads. Or use them separately. The point is, pretty color. Doesn’t cost a lot. Always makes you feel better.
It really does 🙂
Pretty color combinations for Spring 2017 – this is really what it’s all about. Do it yourself – DIY – should be easy, fun, affordable. Your projects should be enjoyable. Your jewelry should look good. It’s simple 🙂
So I’m just showing you a few pretty colors, and a few easy shape combinations. This isn’t rocket science. This is supposed to be fun – and make you look good. Give these earrings and necklaces as gifts. Make some to sell at craft shows. Wear them to the prom.
Easy, pretty, affordable. Life is complicated enough – but DIY jewelry? Is part of the fun stuff 🙂
I just wanted to share this new combo with you all – we’re still in the middle of winter, and a little rich color just looks good, yknow?
It’s a striking combo – and just a reminder, that trying new colors and shapes is an easy, simple way to play with ideas. Green and purple? Why not?
