Crystal AB cushion cut stones

The faceted glass gems shown here are “cushion cut” – a classic faceted shape that’s one of the most popular in my shop. It’s easy to see why!

The “AB” in the color name means “aurora borealis” and that’s a good way to describe the subtle, changeable, lovely colors reflected in the coating on these stones. These are one of the smaller size stones I have in this lovely “Chrystal AB” color range. They’re 10mm x 10mm. That’s approximately 3/8″ – a super useful size to combine with other stones, but with enough presence to use “as is” by themselves for earrings, glass connectors, and smallish pendants.

The subtle colors in the coating vary just a bit with each stone (though I can make close matches). I’ll be showing off some more of these lovely stones soon. Stay tuned!

Blue and white earring design idea

Really my inspiration here is simple: blue and white jewelry. We all wear blue, most of us combine blue and white a LOT, and you know it’s a classic color combination that looks good year round. So I just wanted to show an example of how to easily make a pretty pair of earrings with these colors!

So, round white glass cabochons paired with sapphire blue glass pears. Link with jump rings, and you’ve got some fabulous earrings!

Or pendants, of course 😉

Clear faceted glass pears – and a BOGO sale!

I think I’ve talked about these before but I just thought it was worth mentioning them again. Clear glass gems for your go-with-everything jewelry. If you aren’t sure what will *go*, or all the color earrings you have are just wrong, you can always use these sparkling glass pears 🙂

They’re not loud – but they’re pretty. And think about it – if you’re traveling and don’t know what you might need when you buy something? Clear glass gems. Sparkling. Lightweight. Lovely. Easy to wear.

And just in case you’re interested – from today through midnight on Sunday, May 25, 2025, when you buy one pair, you get one free. You just have to mention this blog post – and let me know what settings you want for your freebie. Get a pair in gold, and a pair in silver. You’ll be ready for anything!

Sheer sapphire blue glass pendant DIY necklace

I thought I’d show off a sapphire glsas necklace design that would work wonderfully with the glass heart jewels I talked about the other day. This lovely glass pear isn’t exactly the same shade as the hearts – but you can see for yourself that it would work wonderfully worn with the heart jewels as earrings (scroll down to the previous post to see those!)

Of course, you could wear it with any other earrings you already own. Or no earrings, it looks great on its own – as is!

And again, I like to emphasize – even a simple design makes beautiful jewelry. You can always add complexity, more jewels, more beads, you name it! And make a lovely necklace. But this pendant, used simply as shown here, is just gorgeous!

And just to remember, sapphire blue is the birthstone color for September. Just in case you need to know that!

Sheer sapphire blue glass heart jewels

One of the great things about DIY jewelry is that you don’t have to work hard. Of course you can – intricate designs can be absolutely fabulous and reflect real skill and artistry. But there are lot of us who like pretty jewelry, and don’t have time (or talent) to weave intricate pieces, or the funds to showcase fabulous precious gemstones.

The thing is – you don’t have to 🙂 You can make lovely jewelry, for yourself or for gifts (or to sell if you’re so inclined) and you don’t have to work hard. Case in point, these lovely glass hearts:

These sheer sapphire blue faceted glass hearts are wonderful for earrings or pendants. Add earwires – and your earrings are ready! Buy or create a chain with clasp, add a jump ring to a sapphire heart charm – and your necklace is ready to wear.

Sometimes easy-to-use, and still beautiful, is the way to go!

P.S. And yes, these lovely hearts are vintage. No extra carbon footprint – and beautiful too 🙂

Amethyst glass gems in multi stone settings – customize these!

Deep amethyst purple glass gems are shown here in multi-stone settings. One – they’re lovely (that’s important!) Two – amethyst is the birthstone color for February, which is handy to know. And three – you can customize these!

Of course when you look through my shop you’ll find lots of rich amethyst glass gems, and more favorites. But there’s something wonderful about these multi-stone settings – you choose the color of the tiny round stones, so you can customize these 🙂 Wonderful earring drops, lightweight and easy to wear – and easy to make. Love it!

Sheer red glass pears – a customer favorite!

Now, I will say right up front that teardrops or pears are probably the single most popular style glass gems I have in my shop. Of course there are many favorites – but pears, or teardrops, are gorgeous as earrings. They don’t need extra fuss!

You see what I mean? You can embellish these, and combine with other jewels, and make gorgeous jewelry. But just as is these are fabulous!

P.S. Ruby red is the birthstone color for July. Just in case that’s handy to remember 😉
