Birthstone colors – July to October

It’s always useful to know what the birthstones (and birthstone colors!) are for the upcoming months. I’ve put together a few examples of birthstone color glass jewels that I have availble right now!

You’ll notice I didn’t even pick the showiest, largest stones. Those are wonderful of course – but sometimes you want small(er), less in-your-face jewelry. Or you want to combine glass jewels with other elements in your designs.

The thing is, this totally works. Use what you have, combine your elements with birthstone colors, and DIY some special custom jewelry for yourself and your friends!

Rainbow Vitrail Glass Jewel Earrings

If you visit my Etsy jewelry supplies shop you’ll see that the vitrail gems featured below, are my shop avatar! I love them and I think you will too. (And vitrail is one of the best selling jewel “colors” in my shop!)

The most important highlight of this pic is that it shows you the scale of the gems – my mannequin is close to life size so you don’t have to rely on printed measurements. You can see how these work as earrings! And since you pick the color of the tiny round stone at the top of the setting, you can customize these. Just a small added bonus!

White and White Opal Vintage Glass Stones

The white and white opal glass stones shown here are some of the favorites in my shop – and I’ve been able to resupply recently! Given that these glass gems are true vintage (not just “vintage style”), that can be tricky!

I was going to say that, especially with summer almost here, white stones and gems are particularly appropriate. But really that’s not relevant. White glass gems are always beautiful and useful, year-round. Think of combining them with black for strong neutrals – or with any pretty pastels. With do it yourself jewelry supplies, you are the true designer – and you choose what elements you love most!

But having said all that – white glass gems are great in summer jewelry!

Black and White Glass Stones

I wanted to share a new pic of some of the black and white glass stones I have available in my shop right now. Neutrals are always in style, and I do mean year-round!

You’ll notice none of these are large, pendant-style stones. Though of course any could be used as pendants. But even small or modest-size glass gems can have real style and work “as is”. And of course if you want to combine them…. they look great and they’re not heavy.

Play with your own ideas – that’s what DIY jewelry is all about!

Bright Red Pear Jewels in Two Sizes

Beautiful glass jewels in vivid red – in two sizes, so easy peasy you’ve got gorgeous earring jewels and a pendant!

I know, sometimes you want to fuss and create intricate custom designs. But sometimes you want DIY jewelry that’s simple and affordable. And these lovely teardrop gems fit that need, right now. Like I said, easy and gorgeous!

Crystal Clear Glass Stones for DIY Jewelry Designs

Crystal clear jewels are always in style. That’s the important basic! They look great year-round, any time of day. Wear them to work for just a bit of sparkle. Wear them for your wedding for more sparkle – that doesn’t have to compete with your gown. Sparkling crystal clear glass jewels always look good!

I have many more shapes and sizes of sparkling crystal gems in my shop right now. Whether you want to make a fabulous pendant, or some tiny earrings, or anywhere in between – crystal shines! Make exactly what you want, for gifts, for customers, for prom, for your wedding. You’ll love them!

P.S. Just a reminder that crystal (okay, diamond) is the birthstone for April. Gorgeous faceted clear crystal glass stones are a lot more affordable than diamond, and seriously the glass jewels are sparkling and fabulous. Just saying!

Customize these multi stone settings for earrings and pendants

I’m featuring a pic of these black diamond and crystal earrings today to show that even fairly small, neutral glass stones can have real design impact! These multi-stone settings have 10x8mm octagons and 4mm round stones.

And these can be customized all kinds of ways! The jewels I show here are neutral – black diamond, or gray – combined with sparkling crystal. I do have many colors available in my shop that fit these settings – making it easy to use your favorite colors, or the colors that match your bridesmaid dresses, or any kind of customization you choose.

The mannequin I use is close to “life size”, so the pic gives a pretty good idea of the size of these earrings. Imagine making them in your fave colors, or your mom’s, or your customer’s. You get the idea!

DIY earring design idea – aqua and purple!

Another example of earrings that look use aqua blue round glass jewels as a design element. Aqua is the birthstone color for March, so it’s kind of an appropriate time to show a few design ideas. But honestly, aqua is always a good idea!

These earrings pair the aqua round gems with sheer amethyst purple teardrops. The earrings have real color and style, but they’re not “in your face”. Sometimes you want pretty jewelry that doesn’t shout real loud, yknow?

And of course you could use this same style idea with your own gems and colors – make your own creative design! That’s what do it yourself jewelry is all about. Your own style. Well, that and saving money and having just exactly what you want!

Aqua, black diamond, and vintage white glass jewels – DIY earring design idea!

I’m really happy with this new earring design idea. The earrings would be long(ish), but the jewels are not massive and the earrings are not heavy (I tried on a pair!) And the combination of aqua 10mm rivoli rounds, black diamond 8x8mm diamonds, and the vintage white 18x12mm teardrops, makes these really interesting and attractive.

At least I think so! Let me know what you think 🙂 And of course, this design idea would be easy to adapt to your favorite colors. Use the beads and jewels scattered on your work bench, try new ideas, and create a fabulous, custom-made pair of earrings!

Red Glass Pears – a Necklace Design Idea

This necklace design is really a classic: faceted pear or teardrop shaped rhinestone jewels in two sizes, used as the focal and surrounding jewels for this pretty necklace.

** Like I said: a classic. Of course you’ll think of your own creative ways to adapt this idea. Use your own favorite color – or colors! Maybe the colors of your children’s birthstones. Or your favorite team!

I show the jewels here with a brass cable chain with just a hint of antique patina. The jewels are available in golden raw brass and silver plated brass as well (honestly I think the golden color is my favorite, but that’s a personal thing.)

Try your own idea(s) for focal design – I would love to see pics of your creations!
