Sheer Garnet Glass Gems for DIY Jewelry

I recently made a pair of earrings as a gift for a friend of mine, using the sheer garnet teardrops shown here in the lower right of the pic below. They were very simple (and of course easy to make) – with no embellishment except for the golden brass prong settings. She loves the earrings!

Now I was prompted to make this particular pair after I saw a new dress she’d bought. But we all have our own spark – something that makes us think hmm, I would love to find (buy)(make) something in this-or-that color. It might be a gift you want to make, it might be something for you.

That’s what’s so great about DIY jewelry – you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money. And you can make great jewelry!

Faceted Glass 10mm x 8mm Octagons – on sale!

I love octagon shaped glass gems, big or small. They have a classic “emerald cut” shape (and that refers to the faceting this time, not the gemstone). They’re classy. They look good all alone or in combination with other shapes and sizes.

And right now, these octagons are on sale! Buy one pair, and get one pair free. It’s easy – when you purchase a pair you send me a convo (right there on Etsy) and let me know what color freebie you want! Equal or lesser value and all that, and only while supplies last. But I’m pretty well stocked up, I think. Don’t wait too long – this offer’s good through midnight on Sunday, August 13, 2023.

P.S. And yes – if you buy five pairs (just for example) you get five freebie pairs, too. Go for it!

DIY Earring Design – emerald and silver!

This simple, fun earring design has two main components: silver plated leaf charms that are a bit under 1″ long, and 10mm rivoli faceted, emerald green glass stones, linked to hang from a large ring. The elements complement each other beautifully!

Of course you can choose any color glass jewel that you love (or that you have on your work table!) I do think the 10mm round stones are a pretty contrast to the slightly longer silver leaf charms. But as always, you’ll adapt this idea using your favorite stones and shapes.

Will love to see what designs you come up with!

Crystal Diamond and Red Pear Earrings – DIY Jewelry

Here’s another example of a pair of earrings that’s easy to make, uses classic shapes in a new combination, is very flattering to wear, and can be adapted to use your own favorite colors and shapes – of course. It’s the idea of interesting combinations that’s really highlighted here!

One of the things I like best about these earrings (well besides the fact that they’re easy to make and don’t cost a lot!) is the combination of sparkling diamond shapes with the opaque red teardrops. An unexpected contrast like that adds a little extra dimension, yknow?

So as always, the goal is (1) low cost, (2) easy to create (and you’ll add your own spin to that of course) and (3) gorgeous earrings. Like I said before – this is a win!

Sheer Glass Pendants for DIY Jewelry

I love pretty jewelry. You probably figured that out. I love affordable jewelry (ditto). And I specially love pretty, affordable jewelry that is easy to make!

The pic here shows just a few of the faceted glass pear or teardrop pendants I have available right now. The sheer jewels just have a delicacy, a prettiness, that I appreciate (and my customers seem to agree). Of course if there’s a color you’re looking for and you don’t see it, click on the pic and message me – the link’s at upper right. Can’t hurt to ask (and no I won’t spam you, really truly!)

We have enough challenges and stresses in this world – isn’t it nice to have something, to create something, that’s pretty and will be a much-loved gift – and you don’t have to work hard to make it?

Olivine Glass Jewels – for your DIY jewelry

I just got a new supply of olivine green glass pears in both 18mm x 13mm, and 14mm x 10mm size. These olivine gems are a bit brighter than my previous supply – a gorgeous fun color that’s just a bit unusual and, hmm, tangy!

Have fun making DIY earrings with these glass gems – I’m going to try combining the different shapes. The 8mm rounds with the 13x7mm pears… and maybe the larger pears as well. Long dangling earrings are just fun sometimes!

Or make a matching pendant and earrings in striking olivine green, as gifts for your buds, or your mom, or for yourself! The best kind of do it yourself jewelry – doesn’t cost a ton and you add your own creative touch. That’s what DIY is all about 🙂

Red Glass Octagons – a Jewel Set for DIY Pendant and Earrings

The bright red glass octagons shown in this pic are fabulous for earrings and a matching pendant. The pendant jewel shown here isn’t huge – it’s 14mm x 10mm, about 5/8″ high. Perfect for a delicate, feminine jewel on a delicate chain.

The smaller bright red octagon stones are terrific when you use two-ring (or loop) settings, and add charms or other stones. But you know, they’re also terrific “as is”. They’re 10mm x 8mm, about 3/8″ high. Large enough to make classic earrings – that aren’t heavy. Comfy *and* pretty earrings 🙂

Don’t you love it when you can make gorgeous jewelry, that’s simple to create – and doesn’t cost a lot? That’s the best of both worlds. You can make the jewelry *you* want, for gifts, for customers, or for yourself. And you don’t have to spend a lot of time or money!

Amethyst Glass Jewel Earrings

I love earrings that combine gems, glass jewels, or other sparkling beads, with chain. The chain adds movement and even more sparkle, without adding a lot of weight. And it’s pretty!

The earring design shown in this pic is super simple. Slip a glass jewel onto your earwire. Then place several lengths of chain onto an open jump ring. Put on the jump ring onto the bottom loop of the jewel setting, close the jump ring, and you’re all set!

Of course this design is totally customizeable – use jewels you have (or purchase some from my shop!) Use your favorite colors, and any chain you have – it doesn’t even have to match. For that matter you could use different color jewels in each earring. I love designs like that – I think a lot of people do. Make the design yours!

Birthstone colors – July to October

It’s always useful to know what the birthstones (and birthstone colors!) are for the upcoming months. I’ve put together a few examples of birthstone color glass jewels that I have availble right now!

You’ll notice I didn’t even pick the showiest, largest stones. Those are wonderful of course – but sometimes you want small(er), less in-your-face jewelry. Or you want to combine glass jewels with other elements in your designs.

The thing is, this totally works. Use what you have, combine your elements with birthstone colors, and DIY some special custom jewelry for yourself and your friends!

Rainbow Vitrail Glass Jewel Earrings

If you visit my Etsy jewelry supplies shop you’ll see that the vitrail gems featured below, are my shop avatar! I love them and I think you will too. (And vitrail is one of the best selling jewel “colors” in my shop!)

The most important highlight of this pic is that it shows you the scale of the gems – my mannequin is close to life size so you don’t have to rely on printed measurements. You can see how these work as earrings! And since you pick the color of the tiny round stone at the top of the setting, you can customize these. Just a small added bonus!
